Pumpkin Carving 101

This is Gannon's first pumpkin carving experience. I thought it would be fun to give him a lesson on how to prepare and carve a pumpkin. I want him to be able to read this post when he is older and learn how his mother felt about pumpkin carving.

1. Pick a night where you can be together with those you love and feel close to.

2. Lay newspaper on the table. Things get a little messy!

3. Make sure that the pumpkin you have picked is your dream pumpkin!!

4. First, cut off the top of the pumpkin.
5. Then put your hand inside that ooey gooey pumpkin and pull the seeds out.
6. Next, draw your favorite face on your pumpkin.

7. Then, carve your pumpkin out and be ready to smile for the camera.
Say Cheese.

I'm scared!!

Mickey Mouse (Madalyn's favorite). Can you tell that this is Mickey?

Storm Trooper

Happy Hayden.

Vampire pumpkin

Madalyn helped Paige cut hers, things went a little crazy!!

8. After you are all done, eat a delicious caramel apple.

Bailey is in a trance.

Oh yeah! This is good!
"Mommy this is all sticky. I need a wet wipe."

Being a Mother!

I have been thinking about this post for the past 5 days. I realize with every child that I have, I really don't know much! For the last 4-5 weeks, Gannon has had a cold or ear infections. My nights have been long and a blur. Sometimes, I just sit on my bed or the couch holding him saying a little prayer that he will feel better and fall asleep so that I can fall asleep and wake up to be a good mom to my other 5 children.

Before, I had Gannon, I knew that this would be the last one for me, so I offered a simple prayer to Heavenly Father asking him to send me a baby that was calm, easy going, not needy, and rarely cried (you are probably laughing, thinking that I am crazy). Well, my prayer was answered in the reverse. My little Gannon is not calm, he is active, needy and cries a lot. Some of the people that come over and visit or see me out with him, think that I am making up that he cries a lot and is needy. They ask me if he is a good baby and I say yes, because I don't believe any baby is a bad baby, but he does cry a lot. They say, "oh he is so happy and calm I don't think he cries like you say". If one of my other kids are standing there, I say, "does Gannon cry a lot"? That child then says, yes!!!! It has been a growing 4 months. I love Gannon very much and I would never replace him for a calm baby. He is perfect for me. I am just thankful that Heavenly Father knows me better than I know myself. Being a MOTHER is a wonderful blessing!! I am just trying to absorb every day and learn from these experiences.
Gannon and I after his bath the other day. He loves to sit in the tub with Bailey and Paige! Warm water calms him down.

The other night the kids and I made sugar cookies and frosted them. Gannon sat in the Bumbo and sucked on his fist, because he could not eat a cookie.

My oldest child, Madalyn. Matt works many many hours and having her with me makes life easier. She is a huge help and loves her siblings. (Sometimes she does go nuts on them but I tell her that her best friends in life will be her siblings. She doesn't believe me, but it is true). I am so thankful that she is my first.

My boys who are full of life. Each one is so different but I have learned and continue to learn so much from them. The other day, Hayden and Carter knew that I hadn't slept much in the night. Hayden came in the room while Gannon was crying and picked him up and gently carried him out of the room so that I could have a few more minutes of sleep. Carter and Hayden sat in the living room playing with Gannon. The tender mercies of the Lord.

I put this silly picture of the girls. They wanted to pull sad faces for the camera. They are definitely not sad girls. They are very nurturing, thoughtful, kind, and creative. They have never been annoyed with Gannon. If he is screaming, Bailey and Paige will say, "Mom, Gannon needs you to feed him (even though I just fed him):). We called Bailey the baby whisperer for Gannon's first 3 months of life. She could calm him like no other.
There is no other calling/job that I would rather have!!

Pumpkin Hunting!

What a wonderful time of year. The sun has been shining and I love the weather like this. Now, if it would only last all fall and winter long. At the end of last week, I realized that we had not gone and picked pumpkins. It feels like time flies by. My weeks are a blur. On Friday night, I informed Matt that we would be going to pick our pumpkins on Saturday. Our weekends are usually full of activities but Saturday afternoon was free. Our friends, the Bayers joined us and we had a great time taking the kids to Olson Farms and getting our pumpkins for 2010.

Hayden, Carter, Gannon, Paige, Keanan, Madalyn, Bryn, Bailey and Alley. Aren't they cute.

We jumped up onto the wagon and the horses took us out to the pumpkin patch. I love going on hay rides. For me, that makes searching for pumpkins complete.

Gannon's first Halloween.
It was so bright outside that we could not get him to look up at the camera.

Our daughter finally returned home to us after being gone for 9 days in Washington, D.C.. We missed her very much. Welcome home honey!!

Bailey found her perfect pumpkin.

Carter loved running all over the patch in search of the right one!!

Hayden boy with his pumpkin.

Paige found the perfect size pumpkin for herself.

Our kids waiting for the horses to return and take them back to the car.

Waiting in line to pay for our pumpkins. I thought that we would pay $30-$50 for all 7 pumpkins, but we only paid........

$20 for all 7 pumpkins and 6 apples. We had a great day. Thank heavens for great weather.

General Conference

Oh how I love General Conference weekend! I look forward to it every 6 months. This conference really answered some of my prayers and concerns. On Saturday morning, I missed the first session because of soccer games. I felt sick about it and couldn't wait for the evening to come so that I could watch what I missed. Sure enough after the 2nd session, I watched the 1st session and learned so much, many of those answered prayers came from the 1st session. Matt went to the priesthood session and came home afterwards and watched the Oregon Duck game. Sunday morning, we woke up and drove to Tricia and Darren's house and enjoyed a day watching sessions 4 & 5 and eating yummy food. The kids loved playing with their cousins and we loved feeling the spirit and hanging out.

Gannon's first General Conference.

Carter and Hayden playing upstairs at Tricia and Darren's house. Fun! Fun! Fun!
